The Oaklander Model uses Brief Therapy to help clients successfully resolve their presenting problems in a limited amount of sessions. Brief therapy is important for therapists to master as many families have time constraints that limit the number of sessions they can attend.

This course includes:

  • The rationale for brief therapy
  • The application of the Oaklander Model to working with clients for a limited number of sessions
  • How to establish a relationship and working alliance with the client and their family
  • How to resolve the presenting problem and/or aspects of the presenting problem
  • How to maximize the field of other influential people (the field) in your client’s life, such as family members, school, medical doctors, etc.

After completing this course you will have received theory and experiential examples that demonstrate how and why to apply the concepts of the Oaklander Model in a brief therapy setting.

As an added bonus, we've included a handout from Healing Through Play Using the Oaklander Model: A Guidebook for Therapists and Counselors Working with Children, Adolescents and Families on using Polarities, a key concept used to promote rapid change in clients.

Get a thorough understanding of how the Oaklander Model approaches brief therapy, including key therapeutic priorities such as establishing the relationship and respectfully approaching the presenting problem.

Learn how the use of Polarities can quickly shift a client’s perception of their area(s) of struggle

Watch a demonstration that grounds the theory in experience in how this model works.
